Previously, he served as U.S. Ambassador to Japan, America’s closest ally in the region. A lifelong businessman, Hagarty began his career at Boston Consulting Group, working across five continents, and later became a venture capital and private equity investor. From 2011–2014, he served as Tennessee’s Commissioner of Economic and Community Development, reorganizing the department and driving record economic growth, earning consecutive “State of the Year” awards for economic development.
